This policy explains what Lakshay Institute collects when you use the Lakshay Institute mobile app or this website, why we collect it, who it is shared with, and how you can get it deleted.

Lakshay Institute is a private coaching institute. This app does not represent a government entity and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government body or exam-conducting authority. It does not provide or facilitate any government service.

Who we are

Lakshay Institute runs the Lakshay Institute coaching app for competitive exam preparation. In this policy "we", "us" and "our" mean Lakshay Institute; "you" means the student using the app or website.

We are the data fiduciary for the personal data described below, and we handle it in line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it.

What we collect

Information you give us

Account details: Your name, email address, mobile number and password. The password is stored only as a one-way hash, so nobody at the institute can read it.
Optional profile: Your city, target exam and profile photo, if you choose to add them.
Support messages: The subject, text and any file you attach when you raise a doubt or a support ticket.
Referrals: Your referral code and, if you were invited, who invited you.

Information created as you use the app

Learning activity: Which courses you are enrolled in, which lessons you have opened and how far through a recorded class you are, and which study material you download.
Test performance: Your answers to mock test questions, marks, accuracy, time spent and the topic-wise breakdown used to build your performance report.
Purchases: The course bought, the amount, any coupon used, whether the payment succeeded, and the reference numbers and payment method returned to us by the payment gateway.
Device and notifications: A push notification token for each device you sign in on, the platform (Android or iOS), the app version, and when the device was last used.
Technical records: Server logs and, for the website, the IP address and browser user agent of a session. These are kept for security and troubleshooting.

What we never collect

Card, UPI or bank details. Payment is taken on the gateway's own secure page. Those details are entered there and never reach our servers; we only receive whether the payment worked and a reference number.
Your location. The app does not ask for or record where you are.
Your contacts, call log, SMS or files beyond the single photo or document you pick yourself.
Advertising identifiers. There are no ads, no advertising SDKs and no cross-app tracking in this app.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

How we use it

To create and run your account, and to keep you signed in on your devices.
To give you the courses, live classes, recorded lessons, e-books and mock tests you are enrolled in, and to keep your progress in sync.
To produce your performance analysis, so you can see your accuracy and weak topics.
To take payment for a course, apply a coupon, issue a receipt and handle refunds.
To send you class reminders, exam alerts and institute announcements as push notifications, and to email you a code when you reset a forgotten password.
To answer your support tickets and doubts.
To keep the service secure: spotting abuse, shared accounts and fraudulent payments, and keeping the records the law requires us to keep.

We rely on your consent when you create an account and when you allow notifications, and on the performance of our contract with you to deliver a course you have paid for. You can withdraw consent to notifications at any time in your device settings.

App permissions

The app asks for a permission only at the moment it needs one, and it works without them:

Photos and files — only when you pick a profile picture, or attach a file to a support ticket. We receive the single file you choose, nothing else in your gallery.
Notifications — to send class reminders and institute announcements. Decline it and the rest of the app still works.
Storage — to save an e-book you download to your device.

How long we keep it

Your account and learning records stay while your account is open, so you keep access to what you bought and to your past results.
Password reset codes are deleted as soon as they are used, and expire within minutes either way.
Push tokens are removed when you sign out of a device or the token stops working.
Order records are deleted with your account. The payment gateway keeps its own record of a transaction under the rules it operates by; that record is held by them, not by us, and it does not include card details.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account yourself, from inside the app:

Profile → Edit profile → Delete my account

This is immediate and cannot be undone. It removes your account, profile, enrolments, lesson progress, test attempts and results, support tickets, saved devices and sign-in tokens. Courses you have bought are lost with it, along with your order history.

You can also do it from the web, without installing the app, at https://thelakshayinstitute.in/account/delete. That page asks for the same password you sign in with.

If you cannot reach either, email support@thelakshayinstitute.in from your registered address and ask us to delete the account. We will confirm within 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

tell you what personal data we hold about you and who it has been shared with;
correct anything inaccurate or incomplete — most of it you can edit yourself under Edit profile;
delete your data, as described above;
stop sending you notifications, which you can also do from your device settings.

Write to support@thelakshayinstitute.in and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

How we protect it

Traffic between the app and our servers goes over HTTPS.
Passwords are stored as one-way hashes and password reset codes are hashed too, so neither can be read back out of the database.
Your sign-in token is held in your device's secure storage, and a password reset signs out every other device.
Study material PDFs are kept on private storage and served through short-lived links, not public URLs.
Only institute staff accounts can reach student records, and only what their role allows.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your personal data, we will notify you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.

Children

The app is meant for students preparing for competitive exams and is not directed at children under 13. If you are under 18, use it only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian, who must make any purchase. If we learn that we hold a child's data without the required consent, we will delete it. A parent or guardian can ask us to do so at support@thelakshayinstitute.in.

Changes

When we change this policy we update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
